and operates the real-time platform behind eBay’s live shopping and
interactive experiences. We combine low-latency video, interactive
chat, and commerce actions with robust trust, safety, and
analytics—at global scale. Responsibilities: People Leadership &
Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a cross-functional full-stack
engineering team (backend and frontend), providing empathetic,
individualized coaching, regular feedback, and clear growth paths
aligned with career goals. Team Health & Culture: Foster a
collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture grounded
in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement. Delivery &
Execution Ownership: Own delivery outcomes for the team, ensuring
predictable, high-quality software delivery through strong
execution, prioritization, and operational rigor. Planning &
Backlog Management: Partner with Product Management to define,
prioritize, and maintain a healthy product backlog aligned with
strategic goals, technical capacity, and business impact.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers,
business stakeholders, analytics, and partner engineering teams to
define, brainstorm, and scale the next generation of eBay shipping
products. Technical Vision & Quality: Define and communicate the
team’s technical vision, championing engineering best practices,
sound architecture, and innovation while raising the bar on
performance, reliability, and system quality. Technical Problem
Solving: Guide and support the team in solving complex challenges
related to large-scale systems, performance optimization, and
operational reliability. Strategic Execution Balance: Balance
near-term delivery commitments with long-term technical and product
strategy to maximize impact while managing technical debt
responsibly. Organizational Influence: Partner effectively with
peer managers, senior engineers, and leadership across eBay to
align on priorities, influence decisions, and drive shared
outcomes. Hiring & Talent Growth: Participate in hiring,
onboarding, and talent planning to build and sustain a strong
engineering team over time. Qualifications: Experience &
Leadership: 10 years of overall professional experience, including
5 years in an engineering leadership or management role, leading
small to medium-sized software engineering teams. Technical Depth:
Strong technical background with experience building and operating
large-scale, distributed systems emphasizing high availability,
scalability, and resilience. Execution Excellence: Demonstrated
ability to drive consistent, high-velocity delivery while
maintaining high standards for quality, reliability, and
operational excellence. Agile & Delivery Practices: Experience
working within Agile/Scrum development environments, including
sprint planning, prioritization, and continuous improvement.
Communication & Influence: Exceptional communication skills, with
the ability to clearly articulate complex technical and business
topics, align stakeholders, and influence decisions at multiple
levels. Product & Business Mindset: Strong product intuition and
the ability to collaborate effectively with product, analytics, and
business partners to deliver customer-focused solutions.
Adaptability & Learning: Proven ability to quickly learn new
technical domains, adapt to evolving requirements, and lead teams
through change. Preferred Experience: Experience building real
time, user facing systems (e.g., live streaming, chat, bidding,
collaboration tools, gaming, or financial trading) where latency
and errors materially impact user trust and outcomes. Background
working on high traffic, event driven products (launches, flash
sales, live events) with an understanding of infrastructure
capacity planning, traffic spikes, and graceful degradation under
load. Lead root-cause analysis and implement long-term fixes across
platform to eliminate recurring issues and continuously elevate the
customer experience. Websocket and FGQL experience a plus.
Additional Details The base pay range for this position is expected
in the range below: $217,600 - $290,500 Base pay offered may vary
depending on multiple individualized factors, including location,
skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this
position may also include other elements, including a target bonus
and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full
range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including
401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO
and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit
plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of
employment. If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position”

as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any
