Description
Public Works is looking for an Extra Help Only Custodian.

DEFINITION
To perform general cleaning and custodial functions for assigned
County buildings and facilities; and to perform related duties and
responsibilities as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives supervision from the Supervising Custodian.
Examples of Duties
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Sweeps and mops rooms, hallways and stairways; vacuums and shampoos
rugs and carpets.
Dusts and polishes desks, counter tops and furniture.
Cleans windows and window blinds.
Cleans mirrors, drinking fountains, and exteriors of
refrigerators.
Cleans offices, restrooms and fixtures; may clean and disinfect
patient care areas following established procedures.
Empties waste containers; may use trucks in collecting and
transporting trash.
Restocks cleaning supplies as needed.
Pushes or lifts furniture and other heavy items; climbs ladders,
and performs other tasks requiring physical agility.
Performs all duties in compliance with policies, procedures,
regulations and established standards of quality and safety.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
One year of full-time equivalent custodial or building maintenance
experience.
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid California driver's license. Under certain
circumstances, the Human Resources Director may accept a valid
driver's license from another state if applicant acknowledges
his/her intent to acquire a California driver's license within
three months by signing an acknowledgement form.

housekeeping for general facilities.
Hazards associated with cleaning compounds / agents.
Effect of cleaning compounds / agents on floors, walls and
glass.
Operation and maintenance requirements of assigned vehicles and

Basic mathematics.
Ability to:
Learn, understand and apply pertinent rules, regulations, policies
and procedures.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions with minimal
supervision.
Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency.
Maintain equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
Perform work safely following all rules and regulations.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those
contacted in the course of the work.

Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively
perform assigned duties.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed mostly indoors, but travels to various work sites
throughout the County. Worker may be exposed to traffic hazards,
machinery hazards, electrical currents, adverse weather conditions,
temperature and noise extremes, wetness, humidity, heights, fumes,
dusts, odors, solvents, skin irritants, vibration.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the mobility to perform custodial maintenance duties.
Requires the ability to sit and intermittently walk, stand, climb,
balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach while performing
custodial work; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up
to 50 pounds occasionally; use hands to finger, handle, feel or
operate objects, tools and controls. Must be able to maintain
effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for
making observations, communicating with others, reading and
writing, and operating janitorial equipment. Must be able to use a
telephone to communicate verbally.
THE SELECTION PROCESS

questionnaire, a written examination, a structured oral interview,
a performance rating, or a combination of any of these, may be

Extra Help is a part time employment assignment limited to a set
number of hours per fiscal year. Extra Help assignments do not come
with benefits. All Mariposa County Employees are currently paid
monthly on the last working day of the month. Extra Help Employees
are paid at the end of the month for the time period spanning the
15th of the previous month to the 15th of the current month.Please
